When it comes to your family (including your furry, four-legged members), we know how important safety is to you. That’s why you might be asking Is fertilizer safe for kids and pets?
While you want a green, healthy, and thriving lawn, you don’t want it at the expense of your family’s safety.
Fortunately, lawn fertilization performed by a lawn care professional is safe. But we’re still rounding up some of our best fertilizer safety tips for children and pets as well as answering your common questions about this service.
We want you to be able to feel confident about your decision to have your Memphis, TN lawn fertilized. After all, it’s an incredibly important service. Lawn fertilization is one of the best things that you can do to promote a healthy lawn.
We understand that the safety of your children and pets always comes first to you. While the products that Master Lawn uses for lawn fertilization are safe, we do recommend keeping pets and kids indoors during the application process.
This is also because we would never want your pet to escape while we are in and out of your yard during our service.
We know how important our clients’ pets are to them and we are also always cautious about closing and latching gates when we leave so that homeowners can let their pets out after we’re gone.
In terms of how long before pets and kids can go on a fertilized lawn, our liquid fertilization products are safe as soon as they dry. That’s because as the liquid material dries on the plant material it is absorbed or bonded to the surface so that it won’t get picked up on pets’ skin or paws (or children’s hands or feet). Because of this, you can let your pets and children back outside once the product has dried feeling confident that they’re in no danger.
As far as exactly how long should you stay off the grass after fertilizing (or how long it takes for the product to dry), it’s usually about a half hour to an hour.
Our liquid products dry quickly and once they are dry, it’s safe to use the lawn.
Depending upon the time of the year and what we’re trying to achieve, we may also use some granular fertilization products, which homeowners will see sitting on the lawn after our application.
We generally tell homeowners to water these products in so that they get down into the soil, which will make them feel even better about the safety. This will also help to activate the product and get the nutrients down to the root zone (in the soil) where they’re needed.
We typically say to wait 24 hours before watering your lawn after a granular fertilization service. But it is important that your lawn receives that good watering session soon after the 24 hour waiting period. Watering will help to break the product down and begin feeding nutrients to the lawn. The key nutrients that a lawn needs are Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K), which are all found in fertilizer.
While the granular products that we use are safe and you could let your pets or kids out after the service is completed, we know that some clients feel better about waiting until this watering is completed and the fertilizer is broken down and activated. If it gives you even more confidence about the safety, then you can wait until the lawn has been watered and then dried before using the lawn.
At the end of the day, we understand that you want a healthy and thriving lawn but you also want to know Is fertilizer safe for kids and pets?
